ARAMID CONVEYOR BELTS

Aramid (two trademarks are "Kevlar" and "Twaron") conveyor belts are used in special applications where a low weight is of paramount importance.

Issues to be considered

Aramide has a low fatigue resistance resp. high compression sensitiveness. Special requirements on the conveyor design have to be incorporated.

The (dynamic) splice strength is much lower than for steel-cord conveyor belts.

Aramid is less robust, quickly absorbs moisture, is susceptibility to UV radiation, has a very high transverse thermal expansion, rapid loss of strength due to swatter and humidity.

Severe failures of Aramid conveyor belts in underground mining have led to their immediate ban some decades ago.
